Purpose
by Bruce E. Parry
What I would like to do with this blog is clarify my own thinking about the movies I see. I watch a lot of movies. Most of them are on DVD I get through Netflix. Some are viewed a number of times for my Movie Group and are the result of detailed discussion about the movie. Some I see in theaters. Some of those I see with my 12-year-old son, Savaun, and either represent his taste in movies or a compromise between him and me. I’m still planning on blogging about them.
What I am going to do is to try and write about every movie I see. I will be blogging after the first viewing, so if I see it multiple times, there might be multiple blogs about the movie. This is particularly true with the movies discussed in Movie Group. I will probably blog about them before the Group and then blog agin about them after the Group, just to clarify for myself and anyone reading, how the Group has altered my thinking about the movie.
I tend to really want a movie to be coherent, entertaining and visually appealing. I like special effects, but am not enamored of them unless they really represent something special. I definitely am in to character and plot development. I am becoming more sensitive to periods of movies that drag. Overall, though, I want to see if a movie accomplishes what it ostensibly set out to do.
